Our client, a major oil company, required the support of an oil spill response specialist to be based in-country long term. Our consultant became embedded in the organisation, acting as the focal point for OSR for the company. This included:
taking on all responsibilities for the development of the oil spill contingency plans
ensuring that the plans are aligned with other business units in the group
the supervision of the OSR contractor
developing and monitoring the exercise and drill programme
conducting an internal training programme for company staff including the emergency response team
the development of local national to take over the post.
Having one person responsible for all the functions proved to be very cost effective and provided greater consistency than can be expected if a number of contractors were used. The company also benefitted from instant access to an experienced consultant.
